Special Weekend Escape: Posthotel Achenkirch in Austria (Tirol)

Continuing my series of Wellness and Wellbeing Hotels I am having today a real special tip for you. I fell in love with this hotel and I will definitely come back again. The cosy interior and the super friendly staff let you feel like home from the minute you step in. Moreover this hotel has an amazing Water and Spa Area plus a very varied sport and activity program….and so much more – so let me take you on a tour through this small paradise.

A small note in advance – the Posthotel Achenkirch is an adult-only hotel.

Already the approach by car is comfortable as you reach through an underground tunnel. So even when it rains or snows you will enter the hotel on dry feet. Underground parking is free for hotel guests as well as a car wash.

You then make your way through the Postgasse passing by a picture gallery, which shows the long history of this family owned hotel.

Once you enter the reception area you feel tucked into the warm and cosy feel of the Posthotel. A rustic, wooden countryside style is combined with modern elegance.

The spacious lobby hall has the same homey ambiance and is the perfect place for a coffee during the day or some after-dinner drinks.

We visited in December so we could enjoy the lovely Christmas decoration. Candles everywhere mixed with so many beautiful details. A real feast for the eyes. Have a look in the picture slide show below.

The hotel consists of various parts. Starting from the older main building to different other sections, which have been added over the years. They are all different in style, therefore the hotel appears a bit disharmonic from the outside – which however doesn’t apply to the real nice interior.

We stayed at the room typeLandhaus Ost, which was a spacious wooden room, designed in the local Austrian mountain style. Check out their website for further room options – they even have some Asian inspired rooms plus some real nice Signature rooms.

Obviously the culinary delights don´t disappoint in a hotel like this. Starting with a real huge breakfast buffet with options for absolutely every taste. I specially liked the fruit section with all its exotic fruits – not so common for an Austrian hotel.

During lunch time a snack and salad buffet is included in the price, which is served in the Bistro area. If you like to have a more hearty meal a live cooking station is on site, where you can order some extras against a surcharge.

Dinner is a combination of buffet and plated set courses – it´s basically your choice how you like to combine it. All meals that we had were super tasty and fresh plus the restaurant and kitchen crew is a nice and friendly team.

Beside the regular meal schedule the hotel offers also optionally a healthy meal plan at their Asian inspired Tenzo restaurant. It is the first health restaurant of its kind in the region. Regional food is mixed here with the ancient 5-elements teaching originated from the traditional Chinese medicine. The food is created under the aspect of the vitalising Yin and Yang concept. Try out this creative vegan cuisine which you can individually season with selected herbs on the spice bar. Indulge afterwards in a wide selection of medical herb teas. Sounds healthy? It is healthy, but also very tasteful.

In any case the cosy house bar is the right place to meet after dinner for a chat with other hotel guests.

But the real treasure of this hotel is their extensive water and sauna area. Over various levels, indoor as well as in heated outdoor pools (regular or thermal salt water) you can splash through your day. Otherwise take off your cloth and enjoy the total relaxation in their sauna area – including various dry and steam sauna rooms, a yin and yang outdoor pool, infrared cabins plus explore the secrets of the sunken temple. You can easily spend 1-2 full days in all these areas.

Relaxation can be hard work – so for a small nap in between various chill-out and silence areas can be found.

Also don´t miss to book yourself into one of their many treatments in the elegant Spa area. I had the Signature Steinöl treatment, where the famous Tiroler Steinöl (stone oil) is massaged into your body. Followed by a stone oil scrub, a bath and a final touch of Steinöl lotion massaged into your body. I promise you will have a baby skin right after.

After all that hanging around it´s time for some activity and also here the Posthotel has a lot to offer. You can either do-it-yourself in the massive gym area or you can join one of the many daily classes.

All the Yogis and Yoginis among you will get their treat at the beautiful Asian inspired Yoga & Meditation Hall. Join Master Liang for a Thai Chi or Qi Gong class, work on your Asanas during a Hatha or Vinyasa Yoga class or meditate on your inner zen during a Gong meditation session.

In the same historic building of the Yoga hall (Zöhrer Haus), you can find some other nice features. One is the Box Stuben, where you can push and kick-out all your aggressions. If you are already in a peaceful inner state you can take that further in the individual meditation room.

If all that is still not enough for you the hotel has a further daily activity program. Here you can join various hiking tours, try out snow shoe walking, do a horse sledge tour and a lot more. All these activities vary according to the season and are either free or with an extra charge.

One thing is sure – you will never get bored during your stay. For further sportive action there is also a tennis hall on site plus a golf course in the near distance.

And last but not least don´t miss to visit the hotel horse stable with their own Lipizzaner breed. You can also join into a horse riding class, get a private lesson or take part in one of their outdoor riding tours if you are already an experienced rider.

The hotel is situated in the Achensee region (www.achensee.com) and depending on the season you have a wide range of activities in the area around. The hotel is also running a small mountain cottage restaurant during the summer month (www.posthotel.at/erwachsenenhotel/zoehreralm).

During our short stay we were basically too relaxed to leave the hotel – we only did a small walk around the village and to the picturesque St. Anna chapel.

It was a special time from the arrival till departure in a very special hotel.

Get inspired at the Posthotel Achenkirch – an extraordinary place for adults!
